Our History The White Horse building, previously known as The Esten House, has a history dating back to the mid 1700's. In 1929, the Esten House building was purchased by William Frith, and extended slightly southerly towards the waterfront edge. In 1930, Ye Olde White Horse Tavern opened its doors, which was at that time a bar and hotel. In the mid 1960’s and again in 1980's, extensions of the building were developed southerly, directly on the waterfront's edge. The White Horse Pub & Restaurant remains a St. George’s landmark still today amongst locals and visitors alike.
We serve fresh, seasonal food with locally sourced ingredients, changing chef specials, thoughtfully chosen wines, and a great range of beer, served up in a friendly, laid back atmosphere. Enjoyed by a mix of our regulars, repeat diners and tourists alike, we aim to please all tastebuds. Looking for that authentic pub experience with a Bermudian flare? Look no further!

King's Square is the heart of the Town of St. George, a local gathering place and a great spot to begin a walking tour of historic St. George's. Colonial-era buildings line the square, including the Bermuda National Trust Museum and the Town Hall from 1782, with its rich Bermuda cedar interiors. The Bank of Butterfield occupies a building from 1776 that was used as a mess hall during the American Revolution. Just outside you'll find the stocks and pillory, replicas of devices used in the 18th century for public punishments. Along the waterfront is a replica ducking stool is the site of reenactments in colonial costume.
Roofless ruins of a neo-Gothic stone church, partially built in the late 1800s but never completed. Grass grows where the pews ought to be, half the support pillars have crumbled, and the roof is long gone. The unfinished church at St. George's in Bermuda is the result of conflicts in the congregation, money troubles, and one almighty hurricane.
Construction on the Protestant church began in 1874. The building, designed to seat 650, was intended to replace St. Peter's Church, an Anglican place of worship established shortly after the 1612 English settlement of St. George's.
Things did not go according to plan—140 years later, the church remains unfinished.
